The entrance to the
Victoria Memorial,
Kolkata.
It seems strange to
an Englishman that a museum devoted to the history of the British
in India,
named after Queen Victoria, and with a more than twice size statue
of her seated on a throne
in the grounds that looks down on every visitor, should be a popular
Sunday destination for crowds of Kolkata residents.
The Statue of Winged
Victory on top of the dome is sometimes used as a symbol for the
city.
White marble perfectly
sets off the colourful saris.
