Calke Abbey.

A National Trust property near Ticknall. Open to the public.

Formerly the home of the Harpur Crewe family.

The original Abbey was founded in the 12th century but the buildings we see were erected between 1701and 1704.
Known as 'the house that time forgot', the Harpur Crewe family were avid collectors and
by the time the house came into the hands of the National Trust some rooms had lain untouched,
with their original decorations, since the mid 19th century.
