Crich Stand.
Crich War Memorial stands
955 feet above sea level on Crich Hill, one of the most prominent
hills in Eastern Derbyshire.
It was opened in 1923 as a memorial to the 11,409 Sherwood Foresters
Regiment who died in the First World War,
and is also now a memorial to the 1,520 Sherwood Foresters who
died in the Second World War.
The tower houses a beacon
which can be seen at night in many parts of Eastern Derbyshire
and Western Nottinghamshire.
It is one of the most
familiar landmarks to all natives of Derbyshire.
