Swarkestone Bridge, six miles south of Derby.
From the south-east.
For about three hundred
years this was the Midlands only crossing of the Trent.
It was built in the
13th century and contains 17 arches, linked by causeways,
and is just under a mile long.
It is the longest stone
bridge in England and holds Grade 1 listed building status.
The view shows the southern
end of the bridge at Stanton-by-bridge.
The northern end has an 18th century 5 arch bridge across the
Trent.
It is famous for being
the furthest point in England which Bonnie Prince Charlie's army
reached during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
